Billy Idol’s 1980’s remix collection, Vital Idol, is getting a modern-day upgrade with Vital Idol: Revitalized, set for release on CD and digital by Capitol/UMe on 28th September. A 2LP 180-gram black vinyl in addition to a limited edition, colour variant will follow on 16th November
More than 30 years after his groundbreaking Vital Idol compilation cemented the vibrancy of the dance-rock remix genre in the second half of the 1980’s, Idol’s Revitalized collection features 11 brand-new remixes of his most classic and enduring hits. Lending their hands to the Revitalized proceedings are electronic dance luminaries Moby, Paul Oakenfold and The Crystal Method as well as current innovators including Tropkillaz, Shiba San, Juan Maclean, CRAY and RAC, who’s remix of “Dancing With Myself” debuts today. Listen/share it here
Vital Idol, initially released in 1985, was the first remix record released by a rock superstar. Besides being certified platinum, Vital Idol was accompanied by a version of “Mony Mony” that reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart, as well as hitting the Top 10 on the UK Singles chart.
Highlights found within the grooves of Revitalized include The Crystal Method’s percussive, explosive remix of “Rebel Yell,” CRAY’s bass-and-keyboard-blessed “White Wedding,” Tropkillaz’s trop-house framing of “Eyes Without A Face,” St. Francis Hotel’s shimmering stop/start caress of “Flesh For Fantasy,” and RAC’s retro-harmonic, fist-pumping “Dancing With Myself.”
Meanwhile, the digital version of Revitalized features four additional exclusive remixes, namely the brand-new Billy Idol/Steve Stevens Remix of “Mony Mony,” Paul Oakenfold’s Extended Remix of “One Breath Away,” Moby’s “Half Time Version” of his take on “(Do Not) Stand In The Shadows” and “Save Me Now (Lost Dog Remix),” reworked by Billy Idol’s son, Willem Wolfe with Brandon Rauch and Ed Bedrosian.

Rock icon BILLY IDOL will bring his Live! 2018 Tour to the United Kingdom and across Europe. The earliest date to be announced is a 20th June show in Manchester with more dates to be revealed in the coming days.
The tour includes a Saturday 23rd June appearance at O2 Academy Brixton in London and will be Idol’s first UK/European run since his hugely successful Kings & Queens of The Underground Tour in 2014 and 2015.
The Guardian described Idol’s 2014 and last headline performance in London at the Hammersmith Apollo in their 4-star review: “Wrapped in leather and soaked in nostalgia, the punk zealot serves up hard riffs with attitude…Idol struts and snarls, propelled by the conviction that rock is the cure for whatever ails you…. this show is nothing if not fantastic fun.”
UK Tickets go onsale on Friday 15th December at 10.00am from https://www.livenation.co.uk/artist/billy-idol-tickets, with a presale for BillyIdol.net subscribers beginning today. Check local venue listings for detailed onsale information.
Billy Idol was an early architect of the sound, style, and fury of punk rock. His lip- curling sneer and fist-pumping persona vaulted him into the mainstream as one of MTV’s first megastars, making him one of the most recognizable faces in pop music, while selling out arenas everywhere he played. He has sold 40 million albums while scoring numerous platinum albums worldwide, nine top forty singles in the U.S. and 10 in the U.K. including “Dancing With Myself, “White Wedding,” “Rebel Yell,” “Mony Mony,” “Eyes Without A Face,” “Flesh For Fantasy,” and “Cradle Of Love.”
Billy was responsible for some of punk rock’s most memorable, literate, and evocative moments and created a pioneering new sound by bringing the spirit of ’77 to the dance floor, going on to fashion an immediately identifiable musical blueprint that integrates club-land throb, rockabilly desperation, and rock’n’roll decadence.
Idol returned to the spotlight in the fall of 2014 with two high profile releases that marked the latest chapter in the long and remarkable story of a musician, an inventor, a survivor, a father, a son, a man who returned from the brink, and a rebel whose yells made the mainstream sit up and pay attention.
Idol’s New York Times bestselling autobiography Dancing With Myself is an electric, intelligent, brutally honest and entirely self-written account of Billy Idol’s journey to fame, from his early days as front man of the pioneering UK punk band Generation X to a long and often decadent life lived loving sex, drugs, rock’n’roll, and motorcycles.
Kings & Queens of the Underground was Billy’s first album of new material in nearly a decade. The album’s palette, which includes incredible contributions from Idol’s long-time collaborator and lead guitarist Steve Stevens, will be instantly familiar to lovers of classic Billy Idol, while announcing a firm step into the future. Produced by Trevor Horn (with two tracks co-written and produced by 2017 Grammy Producer of The Year winner Greg Kurstin), it is full of thumping, cinematic songs about sin, redemption and the love of rock’n’roll.

BILLY IDOL premieres a dramatic and mysterious video for his current single; you can watch it below:
The new video is set to “Save Me Now,” an electro-rocking highlight co-written by Idol, Twin Shadow, and Greg Kurstin, from IDOL’s acclaimed current album KINGS & QUEENS OF THE UNDERGROUND.
Known for his striking and compelling videos, the multi-platinum British rock icon headed to the California desert with his longtime guitarist and collaborator Steve Stevens to film the video that was directed and conceived by Thomas Kirk (who has worked with Muse on multiple videos).
The clip follows a priest and a police officer on a wild ride set against the stark, desolate California landscape, accompanied by a leading lady entwined in the drama. In describing the video, Kirk said: “I went for a concept which very much took the lyrics of ‘Save Me Now’ and turned them into a surreal story that I felt was as true to the very visual lyrics as possible. I loved the image of a bruised cop and a priest trapped inside a car.”
Meanwhile, IDOL continues on his “Kings & Queens Of The Underground Live” 2014-2015 world tour with North American dates until June 4, followed by another run of shows in Europe this summer. IDOL will return to the U.S. from August-October for a mix of solo shows and festival appearances.
KINGS & QUEENS OF THE UNDERGROUND–IDOL’s first studio album in almost a decade–was released in October 2014 on BFI Records via Kobalt Label Services. The album was primarily produced by Trevor Horn, with Greg Kurstin also contributing as producer to two songs, including “Can’t Break Me Down.” Upon the album’s release, USA Today named “Can’t Break Me Down” their song of the week, declaring “with its punkish drive, sneering vocals and roaring Steve Stevens guitar, Can’t Break Me Down could have made a great follow-up to latter-day Idol hits.

About Billy Idol:
From punk pioneer to global superstar, William Michael Albert Broad, aka BILLY IDOL, has left an indelible mark in popular music and remained a household name for over three decades. In October IDOL released Kings & Queens of the Underground, his first album of new material in nearly a decade. IDOL’s autobiography DANCING WITH MYSELF (also released in October) entered the New York Times bestseller list at #13. His style, music, and attitude have transcended time and trend. Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, IDOL spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, IDOL was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band’s split in 1981. Determined to break through in America, IDOL hooked up with guitar genius Steve Stevens and a crucial musical partnership was forged. IDOL created some of rock’s most enduring anthems including “White Wedding,” “Dancing With Myself,” “Flesh For Fantasy,” “Hot In the City,” “Eyes Without A Face,” “Rebel Yell,” and “Cradle of Love,” among others. BILLY IDOL is the original punk rocker who found a way to take that sneering punk attitude into the pop and rock mainstream, carving out songs that have lasted a lifetime. For all the latest BILLY IDOL updates and information, visit BillyIdol.net.
Rock icon BILLY IDOL will release his new single “Save Me Now” on 13th April. This Epic rock number is the second single from Idol’s new album Kings & Queens of The Underground and comes after the announcement of the UK and European legs of his 2015 World Tour.
The tour, which begins with shows at the UK’s Isle of Wight and Download Festivals, also includes dates in Glasgow and Cork, and at various other European festivals. Full tour and ticket information is available at BillyIdol.net
“Save Me Now” was co-written by Billy Idol, Twin Shadow and Greg Kurstin, and produced by Greg Kurstin. Greg Kurstin, who was nominated for Producer of The Year at the 2015 Grammy Awards, is known for his work with Sia, Beck, Pink, Foster The People and Lily Allen, amongst others. Twin Shadow releases his new album in May.
Billy Idol’s 2015 Kings & Queens of The Underground World tour, which has been playing to rave reviews across North America, next visits Australia and New Zealand in March and April.
A live review in The Times recently stated: – “at the end of his sold-out show at Hammersmith, Billy Idol stood at the front of the stage. With legs apart, naked torso rippling, eyes glaring and fists raised above his head.” “The biggest pop star to emerge from the English punk scene of the 1970’s was back to mark his patch.”
