SAXON TO PERFORM ‘DENIM AND LEATHER’ IN ITS ENTIRETY AT LONDON’S KOKO

saxon-5379Due to hit the UK for a string of live shows in December, British metal veterans Saxon announced a special treat for the fans attending their London date at Koko, where they will perform one of their most loved albums, Denim and Leather, in its entirety as well as Saxon classics and material from their current album Call To Arms. A mysterious special guest will also join the band on keyboards during the show.

Denim and Leather is Saxon’s fourth studio album and was released in 1981 to become a cherished classic of English heavy metal. The title track was a tribute from the band to their fans, while describing the history of the sub-culture and the rise of NWOBHM. Two of Saxon’s most successful singles, ‘Princess of the Night’ and ‘And the Bands Played on’, are featured on Denim and Leather.

Biff says “it’s the 30th Anniversary of the album and we played it at Sweden Rock and in Tokyo -it’s about time we played the album once in UK before the year is over.”

Denim and Leather was the last album with the complete classic Saxon line up. These days, lead vocalist HoHand main man Biff Byford keeps leading the pack and mesmerizing audiences with his energetic performances, joined by Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt on guitars, Nibbs Carter on bass and Nigel Glockler on drums.

The rest of the UK dates see Saxon performing a mix of old unforgettable heavy metal classics and new material from their successful latest album Call to Arms, with support from Hammerfall on the entire tour.

SAXON BACK TO THE UK FOR PRE-CHRISTMAS TOUR

calltoarmstourNever tired of the road, British metal veterans Saxon will be returning to the UK for the second time this year with a string of live shows in December.

Saxon are hot on the heels of a US tour in support of their latest acclaimed release ‘Call to Arms’, where both album and shows replicated the success already enjoyed in the UK with public and critics alike. “This is probably the best album we’ve written and recorded in the last 20 years,” states Biff Byford unapologetically, ”It’s the perfect embrace of our past with a great modern edge.”

Lead vocalist and main man Biff Byford keeps leading the pack and mesmerizing audiences with his performances, never shy of energy, drive and enthusiasm. “It doesn’t matter if we are playing for 90,000 people or 2000 people, as long as they are there to see us play, we are happy,” Byford recently commented. Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt on guitars, Nibbs Carter on bass and Nigel Glockler on drums complete the current line-up. Saxon will be playing unforgettable classics and more recent material from Call to Arms.

CALL TO ARMS – NEW ALBUM RELEASE

CALL TO ARMS – NEW ALBUM RELEASE

The steel-coated riff.

The power of the steel-coated riff, in all its forged metallic, shake-your-body, fist-pumping, air-guitar glory.

The songs.
The power of great songwriting, numbers which at once energize, enthral, engage and entertain.
The power of great delivery, the platinum-plated quality of honest, honed, aggressively-crafted pure heavy metal music.

This is Saxon.

This is a Call To Arms… and this is the resurgent rallying cry that generations of denim & leather clad supporters have been waiting to hear.

Packing an armoury of steel-coated riffs and songwriting swagger, British hard rock legends Saxon will release their 19th studio album titled Call To Arms on 6th June 2011.  Recorded at Chapel Studios in Lincolnshire, UK and Brighton Electric Studios in Brighton, UK, the 11-track album was co-produced by singer/songwriter Biff Byford and Toby Jepson (Little Angels). Featuring Byford on lead vocals, Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt on guitars, Nibs Carter on bass and Nigel Glockler on drums, Call To Arms is bang on-the-money brilliant Saxon music, a confident embrace of the aura and writing values from their early years married perfectly to a modern Saxon crunch.

“This is probably the best album we’ve written and recorded in the last 20 years,” states Biff Byford unapologetically, “I know a lot of bands say that, but ‘Call To Arms’ really does feel like that to me. It’s the perfect embrace of our past with a great modern edge.”

Between the furious riffage of ‘Hammer Of The Gods’ all the way through to ‘Ballad Of The Working Man’, Saxon also found time to invite fans to sing on the nostalgic stomp of ‘Back In ‘79’ thanks to a Byford brainwave the night before recording.

“We put something up on our website 24 hours before recording the track in Brighton, and funnily enough we had exactly 79 people show up on time to sing on the song. It was a fantastic result which is a direct tribute to ‘Denim & Leather’ where we did the same exact thing.”

There is also a guest appearance from Rainbow/ELO/Ozzy Osbourne and Deep Purple keyboard legend Don Airy on ‘When Doomsday Comes’

“We were at the American embassy in different lines queuing for our visas and by the time we’d got them, Don had agreed to come and play on the song,” chuckles Byford.

It will also feature alongside the track ‘No Rest For The Wicked’ in the forthcoming movie ‘Hybrid Theory’, a sci-fi thriller which follows a group of British soldiers who find themselves in a life or death battle with an enemy far beyond their wildest nightmares.  The film is directed by James Erskin who made ‘One Night In Turin’ about England at the World Cup in 1990.

“We’ve done our darker albums, our full-on metal albums, we’ve been to those spaces and experimented with them and people came on the journey with us,” says Byford, “and with Call To Arms you have the culmination of those 10 years and the 20 years before it. I love this album. I love the songs. I love the sounds. It’s right on the money.”

Don’t dare argue. Because Biff Byford doesn’t bother dealing in hyperbole, only truths…

SAXON RETURN TO THE UK

SAXON RETURN TO THE UK

saxon_woa_2009Mighty English heavy metal legends Saxon return to the UK in April with 12 dates as Part 1 of their World Tour 2011. They will be joined on this tour by heavy metal band Wolfsbane and metal band Fury UK.

Saxon will release the long awaited follow up to their current album Into The Labyrinth in March. Their DVD Heavy Metal Thunder was recently nominated for best DVD of the year by Classic Rock Magazine.

The band have had a busy year, which included performing a blinding set at Download, Donington in June, where to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the first Monsters of Rock Show, they played their legendary Wheels of Steel album in it’s entirety for the first time ever.

As is becoming an almost yearly custom for Saxon, they will perform at the 02 Shepherds Bush Empire in London on St. Georges Day, 23rd April, which promises to be a loud, rocking celebration of England’s patron saint’s day.

Biff Byford says – “It will be great to get back on tour in the UK. I think next year we will bring more Marshall’s and get back to audience and band, as one together. Good to see the London show is on St Georges Day – I’m sure there will be lots of flags on stage. See you all soon, keep the faith.”

SAXON are true heavy metal heroes. Their story is a classic rock’n’roll saga: five friends from the backstreets of Yorkshire setting out to take on the world. The resulting chart glory, band infighting, full-on rock’n’roll excess, ensures their dramatic tale will become part of heavy metal history. A documentary: “Heavy Metal Thunder” is now in production for release in November and can be pre-ordered onwww.saxon747.com. The film features not on only contributions from Saxon past & present, but from the likes of Metallica, Motörhead, Harvey Goldsmith and many more. It will also feature plenty of rare archive material and unseen concert footage.
