‘GENESIS REVISITED WITH CLASSIC HACKETT’ UK Tour – April/May 2017 4 SHOWS NOW SOLD OUT!

Celebrating 40th Anniversary of classic GENESIS album ‘Wind and Wuthering’

The continuing popularity of former Genesis guitarist and prog legend Steve Hackett is in no doubt as 4 dates on his latest 15-date UK tour have already sold out. They are in Cambridge, Reading, London & Manchester. Tickets for the remaining eleven gigs in April & May are going fast.

It’s 40 years since Hackett recorded his last studio album with prog giants Genesis before leaving the band to embark on his highly successful solo career. That album was Wind and Wuthering. Now Steve and his incredible band celebrate this classic work’s 40th anniversary by treating audiences to thrilling renditions of tracks from the album.

The show features more Genesis gems, including fan favourites such as ‘The Musical Box’, as well as Genesis tracks ‘Inside & Out’ (released on an EP shortly after Wind & Wuthering) and ‘One for the Vine’ which have never been performed by Steve and his band until now.

Steve’s brilliance, of course, is not limited to his years with Genesis and the show will include plenty of ‘Classic Hackett’ from his remarkable solo catalogue, including popular hits such as ‘The Steppes’, ‘Serpentine’, ‘Every Day’ and the first ever live performance of ‘Rise Again’ from his 1999 album Darktown. Steve will also be introducing fans to music from his new studio album The Night Siren, out on 24th March. Truly a show not to be missed!

Watch the band rehearsing El Niňo from The Night Siren here:

“I’m thrilled to bring my latest show of Genesis and Hackett numbers to the UK, adding additional numbers such as ‘One for the Vine’ and celebrating the 40th anniversary of ‘Wind and Wuthering’, one of my favourite Genesis albums and popular with Genesis fans the world over…” Steve Hackett

But Steve isn’t the only one excited by this latest live offering… the American leg of the “Genesis Revisited with Classic Hackett” tour has received consistently excellent reviews from media across the USA:

All in all, an evening of flawlessly performed music played to a very appreciative audience of prog fans who rarely get to see this genre of music played live in this day and age as well as it was this evening.
Elmore Magazine

Steve Hackett was masterful in revisiting Genesis, unfurling solo gems in Grand Rapids.
Local Spins Magazine

Hackett’s soaring guitar work still sounded as vibrant that evening as it did nearly 50 years ago when he first joined Genesis. With a calm and almost stoic demeanor that contrasted him from the more flamboyant axe masters, Hackett showed a dexterity and versatility in his performances, from strumming Latin-style acoustic to tapping on the electric numbers.

STEVE HACKETT: THE NIGHT SIREN

STEVE HACKETT: THE NIGHT SIREN

Guitar virtuoso and rock legend, Steve Hackett (formerly of Genesis), releases his latest album The Night Siren on 24th March 2017 through InsideOut Music (Sony). As implied in the title, The Night Siren is a wake-up call… the warning of a siren sounding in this era of strife and division.

The Night Siren showcases Steve’s incredible guitar as strongly as ever, along with musicians from several different countries who Steve invited to join him in celebrating multicultural diversity and unity. This includes singers from Israel and Palestine, who both actively campaign to bring Jewish and Arabic people together. There are also instrumentals from the USA and Iraq and a multiplicity of sounds, including the exotic strains of Indian sitar and Middle Eastern tar and oud, the ethnic beauty of the Peruvian charango and the haunting Celtic Uilleann pipes.

Steve is widely travelled, making friends everywhere he goes and has always embraced multicultural diversity. In these times of unrest, he has been inspired to express his belief that the world needs more empathy and unity. His wish to involve a range of musical sounds, instruments, musicians and singers from different parts of the world is both a development of his eclectic approach to music and shows how people can be brought together, even from war torn regions.

Talking about his latest work, Steve says, “This latest waxing represents a bird’s eye view of the world of a musical migrant ignoring borders and celebrating our common ancestry with a unity of spirit, featuring musicians, singers and instruments from all over the world. From territorial frontiers to walled-up gateways, boundaries often hold back the tide. But while the night siren wails, music breaches all defences. To quote Plato, ‘When the music changes, the walls of the city shake’.”

The musical journey takes us from ‘Behind the Smoke’, focusing on the plight of refugees throughout the ages, to the penultimate track ‘West to East’ which reflects on the damage of war and the hope for a better world. From personal to universal, the themes celebrate the life force, breaking free from chains of repression.

Also featured are singers Kobi and Mira (Israeli and Palestinian), Nick D’Virgilio (drums) from the USA, Malik Mansurov (Tar) from Azerbaijan & Gulli Breim (drums & percussion) from Iceland. Additional musicians who add to the rich flavour of the album are Christine Townsend (violin & viola), Dick Driver (double bass), Troy Donockley (Celtic Uilleann) and Leslie Bennett (keyboards on The Gift).

STEVE HACKETT TO RELEASE “THE TOTAL EXPERIENCE LIVE IN LIVERPOOL” THE LIVE 2CD/2DVD, BLU-RAY OF HIS ACOLYTE TO WOLFLIGHT WITH GENESIS REVISITED TOUR

STEVE HACKETT TO RELEASE “THE TOTAL EXPERIENCE LIVE IN LIVERPOOL” THE LIVE 2CD/2DVD, BLU-RAY OF HIS ACOLYTE TO WOLFLIGHT WITH GENESIS REVISITED TOUR

Sleeve SteveHackett_TheTotalExperienceLiveInLiverpoolGroundbreaking prog guitarist Steve Hackett has announced the release of his acclaimed Acolyte To Wolflight With Genesis Revisited Tour as 2CD/2DVD deluxe package and stand-a-lone Blu-Ray and, after three London concert videos, he chose the Liverpool date for the recording. The Total Experience Live In Liverpool will be released on 24th June.

“When Inside Out told me that I could film a gig on the British leg of the 2015 tour for release, I thought that we should do it away from London (and) I felt doing it in Liverpool had a certain ring to it” – explains Hackett enthusiastically – “This is an extraordinary city and the Philharmonic Hall is an extraordinary venue. Besides, it’s not as if Liverpool is known for having any good music – there’s never been a good band from there. Ha!” Hackett’s love for Liverpool goes back to his time with Genesis: “We played there a few times in the ’70s, and the fans have always been very good to me there. And as a huge Beatles fan, I also know the landmarks there, such as Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields. I have been on the Magical Mystery Tour. So, the city means a lot to me from that point of view as well. The Beatles set the benchmark for all of us who have followed; we take our imagination from them.”

Celebrating the 40th anniversary of his first solo album ‘Voyage Of The Acolyte’ and following his latest ‘Wolflight’, the ‘Acolyte to Wolflight with Genesis Revisited’ tour was Steve’s effort to represent the many chapters of his career. Featuring two sets – one highlighting his solo work, the second paying tribute to Genesis – the two hour performance was greeted with enthusiasm by both fans and critics.

“It wasn’t an easy job to decide what to include, but I think there was a good balance between old and new.” – Hackett comments. “What I have always born in mind when choosing the songs is what they mean to the fans. Time has a way of turning them into an emotional calendar for people. These songs take on an importance and become part of their lives. So, when I do them live, authenticity is important. I am aware that what I have to do is find a connection between nostalgia and what things can sound like in a contemporary setting”. Liverpool was one of the dates with Amanda Lehmann guesting on ‘Shadow Of The Hierophant’, which was performed in its full version with an extended drum solo showcasing Gary O’Toole’s skills, a triumphant closing to the first set.

A multi-camera shoot, the recording was done with no prior rehearsals, but Hackett had every confidence in the people he was working with. Paul Green, who did the filming and editing, and Ben Fenner, who mixed the audio, work with Steve regularly and knew exactly what he was looking for. “Paul was also very innovative” – Hackett reveals – “He used one particular technique to show what Gary was doing on drums, and it is an unusual effect I have never seen before. The drums seem to arc, because of the lens he’s using. It gives a very different perspective to the whole viewing experience” The acoustics in the Philharmonic Hall were very impressive on the night, albeit rather challenging; Ben, who does the live sound for the band, took that challenge with superb results. What you hear in the mix, though, is exactly what the band sounded like on the night with no extensive ‘fixing’ in the studio, as live should be.
