STEVE HACKETT TO REISSUE COLLECTION OF EARLY RECORDINGS ‘PREMONITIONS – The Charisma Recordings 1975-1983’

Steve Hackett 'Premonitions' 3D packshot 1Prog rock pioneer Steve Hackett has announced the release ‘Premonitions – The Charisma Recordings 1975-1983’, a comprehensive reissue project that includes his first 6 albums on the Charisma label, together with a wealth of previously unavailable recordings as well as remixes by Steven Wilson. ‘Premonitions’ is released on 23rd October by Universal Music Catalogue/Virgin.

‘Premonitions’ comes in a Super Deluxe box set featuring a total of 135 songs on 10 CDs and 4 DVDs (5.1 mixes), plus an extensive booklet; included in this version are 67 previously unreleased recordings between old and new tracks, live and remixes.

“I’m pleased that Steven Wilson has done several new mixes in both surround and stereo” – Hackett has declared – “The box set will also contain a number of live shows from the era. I’ve enjoyed being involved with this comprehensive trip down memory lane. There’s also a substantial booklet containing a lot of background info along with many wonderful Armando Gallo shots, and Roger Dean has painted a beautiful picture for the cover. For me it’s a proud souvenir that highlights those years. I’ll play plenty of this early work at shows in the autumn which will include some numbers not played live for many moons, like ‘Icarus Ascending’ and ‘Star of Sirius’ plus all time faves such as ‘Every Day’ and ‘Spectral Mornings’.”

Hackett’s two most successful albums from the Charisma era, Please Don’t Touch and Spectral Mornings, will also be re-released separately in a deluxe expanded version with 5.1 mixes by Steven Wilson in 2016. Both records were previously reissued in 2005 as expanded single disc sets.

2015 marks 40 years from the release of Steve Hackett’s first solo record Voyage of the Acolyte; He was the first member of Genesis to release a solo album, before leaving the band in 1977. Hackett’s musical career has been blooming over the past four decades, establishing him as a loved icon and pioneer of the genre. His current studio album Wolflight was released in March to critical acclaim, charting at 31; it’s the first studio album of new material since Beyond the Shrouded Horizon in 2011 and explores past and contemporary cultures in a revolutionary journey.

The 40th anniversary celebrations continue with 19 UK shows on the ‘Acolyte to Wolflight with Genesis Revisited Tour’, where fans will have the opportunity to relive the Charisma years while discovering the guitarist’s more recent work, together with a selection of Genesis tracks previously unheard live.

STEVE HACKETT – ‘WOLFLIGHT’ INTERVIEW VIDEO LAUNCHED

STEVE HACKETT – ‘WOLFLIGHT’ INTERVIEW VIDEO LAUNCHED

World-renowned guitarist/composer Steve Hackett returns with his new solo album Wolflight on the 30th March 2015 in Europe. With just over a week to go till the album release, an interview with Steve on the album’s title track, taken from the special edition version of the album, has been released. Listen & find out more about the song and the ideas behind it here:

A lyric video for the track ‘The Wheel’s Turning’ was also recently released and you can find that here:

Steve had this to say about the song: ‘In contrast to the primal and gothic nature of much of the album, ‘The Wheel’s Turning’ has a fun and nostalgic vibe. It recaptures my childhood memories of London’s Battersea Funfair which gave me hours of joy and challenge in an otherwise grey world. Take that trip back in time with me, fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride…’

It was also recently revealed that Roine Stolt (Transatlantic, The Flower Kings) would be joining him on bass and 12-string guitar for the UK tour dates later this year.

A teaser trailer for the album, featuring snippets of new music plus some insight from Steve himself, can be viewed here:

STEVE HACKETT REVEALS NEW BASS/12 STRING PLAYER

Steve Hackett and Roine Stolt KennyMathiesonProg visionary Steve Hackett has announced the addition of multi-talented guitarist Roine Stolt to his tour line-up. Stolt, known as leading light of the Flower Kings and for his association with Transatlantic, will play bass and twelve string, occasionally also joining Steve on guitar.

The legendary ex-Genesis guitarist commented: “I’m really pleased that Roine Stolt will be joining the band for the autumn shows on bass, twelve string and for some songs doubling on electric guitar with me. Roine is a truly impressive and versatile player and I particularly like his work with other bands and artists. I have enjoyed playing with him live on more than one occasion and I’m thrilled he’s going to join the team. It’s marvellous to have both Swedish talents Roine Stolt and Nad Sylvan as part of the band for these Hackett solo/Genesis Revisited shows.”

Hackett, who releases new album Wolflight on 30th March, will bring his Acolyte To Wolflight with Genesis Revisited Tour to the UK in October 2015 with 19 shows. The first will cover a vast part of Steve’s discography, with a selection of solo material from early albums including Voyage of the Acolyte & Please Don’t Touch right up to Wolflight; the second set will see Nad Sylvan take care of the vocals on the Genesis material.

The complete line-up for the tour will include Roger King on keyboards, Gary O’Toole on drums, Rob Townsend on sax, Roine Stolt on bass & 12 string guitar, Nad Sylvan on vocals and Steve Hackett on guitar and vocals. STEVE HACKETT ANNOUNCES NEW SOLO STUDIO ALBUM ‘WOLFLIGHT’ OUT ON 30TH MARCH

STEVE HACKETT ANNOUNCES NEW SOLO STUDIO ALBUM ‘WOLFLIGHT’ OUT ON 30TH MARCH

SteveHackett press credit Rick Pauline pressMusic pioneer Steve Hackett has announced the release of his new solo album Wolflight. According to the man himself, this “wild pack of tracks – starting with a wolf cry – will be unleashed on the unsuspecting on 30th March 2015.”

From a plaintive wolf cry to Steve embracing real wolves (see sleeve above), exploring dark caverns, ancient ruins and tropical lagoons, primal energy is at the root of this album as a springboard to an exotic and exciting adventure.

Wolflight is Steve’s first original solo studio album since Beyond The Shrouded Horizon in 2011.  Primal and orchestral, it retains the Hackett trademark as electric guitar runs right the way through with a regular sprinkling of acoustic.  The concept behind it is a new unexplored chapter in the guitarist’s career.

The ten tracks take the listener through a journey in space and time looking at the different faces of the endless fight for freedom. Wandering between parallel universes, Hackett explores contemporary and ancient cultures, from Greece (Corycian Fire) to the Far East (Wolflight), the USA and Martin Luther King (Black Thunder), but also his very own childhood memories (The Wheel’s Turning) and the unresolved drama of domestic violence (Love Song to a Vampire).

An excited Steve Hackett tells us more about the record: “My new rock album Wolflight is at the ready and lying in wait. It reflects everybody’s struggle for freedom on a journey travelling through both inner and outer space. It explores sounds from as far afield as Greece, Azerbaijan, the deep American South, Sahara desert and beyond, from all our yesterdays, evoking the ancient past”.

Steve Hackett’s electric guitar plays a powerful role, whilst we also hear him on acoustic guitar, Arabian lute and twelve string, along with his strong lead vocals.  Guest Musicians include long time collaborators Roger King (Keyboards & programming), Gary O’Toole (drums), Rob Townsend (sax, duduk), Nick Beggs (bass & stick) and Amanda Lehmann (harmony vocals).  Malik Mansurov on tar and Sara Kovaks on didgeridoo add an extra exotic element, plus YES bassist Chris Squire plays on Love Song to a Vampire and Hugo Dagenhardt plays drums on Dust and Dreams.   The innovative song writing team includes Steve Hackett, his wife Jo Hackett and also Roger King.

Track list as follows:

  1. Out of the Body
  2. Wolflight
  3. Love Song To a Vampire
  4. The Wheel’s Turning
  5. Corycian Fire
  6. Earthshine
  7. Loving Sea
  8. Black Thunder
  9. Dust and Dreams
  10. Heart Song

Let Steve Hackett’s magic guitar lead you like Pan’s flute through a primordial dream of love, struggle and liberation.  Take the journey to freedom with Wolflight; taking off 30th March.

Steve will embark upon his Acolyte To Wolflight with Genesis Revisited Tour in October 2015, with 19 UK shows. Hackett states: “I’m excited to embrace Genesis Revisited once more on my tour whilst also celebrating 40 years of Voyage of the Acolyte, playing several Hackett favourites and introducing my new Wolflight album.”

??????????????????????????????????????????Prog pioneer Steve Hackett proudly announces the DVD release of his critically acclaimed live spectacular Genesis Revisited, filmed at the sold out show at London’s legendary Royal Albert Hall in October 2013. In order to re-live such a seminal chapter of prog rock history live on stage for Genesis Revisited, Hackett surrounded himself with a team of exceptional musicians including keyboardist Roger King (Gary Moore, Snoop Dog, Jamelia), Gary O’Toole (Chrissie Hynde, Kylie Minogue) on drums, percussion and vocals, Rob Townsend (Eddie Henderson, Bill Bruford, Django Bates) on sax, flute and percussion, Lee Pomeroy (Rick Wakeman, Take That) on bass, and Nad Sylvan (Abbas’s Michael B Tretow) on vocals.

STEVE HACKETT – EXTENDS GENESIS’ LIVE BONANZA

STEVE HACKETT – EXTENDS GENESIS’ LIVE BONANZA

Hackett Steve in concert Friars 050913Legendary guitarist Steve Hackett has announced his Genesis Extended Tour, featuring a selection of classics to include some of the gems he had to sacrifice on the Award winning Genesis Revisited live shows. With a career and repertoire spanning decades between Genesis and his outstanding solo work, this will be the last opportunity for fans to see Hackett perform a whole set from the seminal prog band’s catalogue.

An enthusiastic Steve Hackett explains: “Due to the success of the Genesis Revisited shows, in 2014 we’re extending both the dates and the concept. We’ll launch into a full Genesis set with favourites from this year such as The Musical Box, Dancing with the Moonlit Knight and Supper’s Ready along with the addition of other Genesis classics which are often requested and the audiences deserve to hear… I’m really excited about this!”

Steve Hackett was Genesis’ guitarist from 1971 to 1977 and is the first ex-member to re-record and tour that part of
the band’s material in Genesis Revisited I (1996) and II (2012). Taking the stage again with Steve Hackett is an exceptional team of top class musicians, including Roger King (Gary Moore, Snoop Doggie Dog, Jamelia) on keyboards, Gary O’Toole (Kylie Minogue, Chrissie Hynde) on drums, percussions and vocals, Rob Townsend (Eddie Henderson, Bill Bruford, Django Bates) on sax, flute and percussions, Nick Beggs (bass/twelve string guitar) and Nad Sylvan (Unifaun, Agents Of Mercy) on vocals.

The Genesis Extended Show will visit some of the locations that Genesis Revisited missed, and will also return to London where the two previous dates – Hammersmith Apollo and Royal Albert Hall – completely sold out. It will be a chance to celebrate the success of the Genesis Revisited – Live at Hammersmith CD/DVD box set and Hackett’s recent Prog Award for best Live Event, again for that famous Hammersmith night.

Talking about Hackett’s astounding live performance, Classic Rock Prog magazine wrote: ‘a faithful, inspired trip down memory lane which reaffirms the majesty of many of progs defining moments. Hearing a packed house inquire in unison, ‘A flower?’ is a spine-tingling experience’‘spine-tingling’ was also the word used by the Newcastle’ Chronicle to describe the brilliance of his guitar solo, while Fireworks called the show ‘magnificent in every respect’ and Classic Rock Society defined it as ‘two hours and a half of pure joy for any Genesis fan’

If you missed the show or the show missed your favourite track, here’s your chance to relive the timeless magic that is Genesis, thanks to guitar wizard Steve Hackett and his remarkable live band. Once again, back to make everyone happy.

The Genesis Extended tour will hit the UK in October 2014, dates as follows:
