YES to release Fly From Here – Return Trip on 25th March

YES to release Fly From Here – Return Trip on 25th March

YES Fly From Here Rob Shanahan hi resOn 25th March prog icons, YES, will release a brand-new mix of their album Fly From Here – Return Trip, featuring the Drama line-up and new lead vocals by Trevor Horn, to coincide with their 50th Anniversary celebrations.

Fly From Here – Return Trip can be exclusively pre-ordered via Pledge Music here:  https://yesthedramalineup.pmstores.co/

The original 2011 release of Fly From Here featured the band members who appeared on Drama: Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, plus Benoit David on lead vocals with Trevor Horn in the role of Producer.

The addition of Trevor’s lead vocals has produced a genuine sequel to Drama. Fly From Here – Return Trip was developed as a labour of love for all involved and the new vocals were recorded over the last two years amidst other commitments. Trevor began re-recording the lead vocals the day after he guested with YES at the Royal Albert Hall in 2016 and within 24 hours the rest of the band had joined him at his studio. Additional overdubs by other members have also been added.

In addition to remixing parts of the album, Trevor has added personal liner notes and the sleeve design features the painting by Roger Dean originally used on the inside of the 2011 edition.

Trevor Horn says: “I really enjoyed listening to Alan and Chris playing together again. Finishing off the album was a labour of love.”

Fly From Here – Return Trip also contains a previously unreleased song, “Don’t Take No for an Answer” recorded in 2011, with Steve Howe on lead vocals. Additionally, the full-length version of “Hour of Need” is included. This has previously only been included as a Japanese bonus track.

“It is great to have the original Drama line up playing Fly From Here plus several other songs Trevor had a big part in writing.” Comments Steve Howe.

Geoff Downes adds: “It’s quite amazing what Trevor has done with the album and the way it has turned out. It is most refreshing and adds a whole new dimension to the original recordings from 2011. I think the fans will appreciate it as a genuine sequel to the Drama album, and embrace it as a valuable part of our YES50 celebrations.”

YES Release Live Album TOPOGRAPHIC DRAMA on 24th November

YES Release Live Album TOPOGRAPHIC DRAMA on 24th November

Sleeve YES-Topographic Drama FINAL-2400 copyIn the Summer of 2016, Yes embarked upon an ambitious tour. At each show, the band performed its 1980 album Drama in its entirety – for the first time ever – plus sides one and four from Yes’ 1973 double-album Tales From Topographic Oceans (their first number one album), together with fan favourites like “Roundabout” and “Starship Trooper.”

Rhino salutes the influential progressive rockers – who were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year – with the new live album, TOPOGRAPHIC DRAMA – LIVE ACROSS AMERICA. The music will be available on 24th November as a double-CD and a triple-LP. Both versions feature detailed cover art designed by the band’s longtime collaborator Roger Dean.

The new collection features live performances from 12 dates recorded on the tour in February 2017, by the current Yes line-up: Steve Howe (guitars), Alan White (drums), Geoff Downes (keyboards), Billy Sherwood (bass), Jon Davison (vocals), and additional drummer for this tour Jay Schellen.

TOPOGRAPHIC DRAMA – LIVE ACROSS AMERICA highlights the best performances from the 2017 leg of the 12-show tour and mirrors the set list from those concerts. Each night, Yes opened with all six songs from Drama (1980), the band’s tenth studio album, which peaked at No.2 on the U.K. album chart. Standouts include “Machine Messiah,” “Tempus Fugit” and the album’s only single “Into The Lens.”

After Drama, the band shifted gears for songs from two of its best-selling albums: “And You And I” from 1972’s Close To The Edge (UK platinum) and “Heart Of The Sunrise” from 1971’s Fragile (UK platinum).

Next, the group played the opening and closing tracks of its concept album, Tales From Topographic Oceans (1973). Howe’s exceptional guitar work on “The Revealing Science Of God” and White’s propulsive drumming on “Ritual” have always been regarded as ground-breaking. The album concludes with two live staples: “Roundabout” from Fragile (1971) and “Starship Trooper” from The Yes Album (1971).

Among the world’s most influential, ground-breaking, and respected progressive rock bands, Yes was founded in 1968. The Grammy-Award® winning recording artists have sold more than 50 million records in a career that has so far spanned six decades.

#YES50 – YES Announces 50th Anniversary Tour

#YES50 – YES Announces 50th Anniversary Tour

Yes - Live Tales photo by GottliebBros hi resThe year 2018 marks half a century since the formation of the legendary group YES, one of the biggest bands in prog-rock history and true pioneers of the genre.  To celebrate this remarkable milestone YES will embark on a 10-date UK tour next March – #YES50.

On this not-to-be-missed tour, YES [Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison and Billy Sherwood] will feature not only many of the band’s classic hits but performances of sides 1 and 4 and an excerpt from Side 3 of their 1973 album Tales from Topographic Oceans, which was the first Yes album to top the UK album charts.  YES will also play some European shows.   Watch this space for more dates.

The final weekend of the UK tour at the London Palladium on 24th and 25th March will include a 50th Anniversary fan convention – more details of the anniversary celebrations will be announced soon.  Roger Dean (whose fantastical landscapes have become synonymous with the band’s albums) will unveil new “Close To The Edge” paintings at the Palladium on March 25th.

YES, deservedly inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame in April 2017, will release “Topographic Drama – Live Across America”, a new live album, planned for later in the year, recorded during their US 2016/17 tours.

Talking about their 50th Anniversary, Steve Howe said, “We want to mark this anniversary with a tour that encompasses some of our best loved work – we want to play things we enjoy, maybe songs we haven’t done in a while.” Geoff Downes adds “I feel enormously privileged be a part of the legacy of the incredible and unique line of musicians in YES. The band has always remained fresh and inventive throughout its 50-year history, and created an amazing catalogue of music that has inspired millions from all generations.”

Alan White says “Reflecting on the past 46 years that I’ve devoted my life to playing Yes music, it’s been an interesting journey and a true labour of love. I’ve always believed in the power of music and the band’s recent induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and our Grammy awarded in 1985 are testament to the longevity of influence our music has had through the years. I’m extremely grateful to continue to be performing on stages for our dedicated fans and look forward to our 50th Anniversary performing together in 2018. It’s been a great ride!!”

yesgreenlogoYes they can! YES will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the Class of 2017, it was announced this morning. The induction, following two previous nominations, will occur one year shy of the legendary progressive rock band’s 50th anniversary.

“What an honor this is for us and all involved with the history of this band,” shares guitarist Steve Howe. “We thank all the Yes fans who have been so passionate over the decades, and helped us to keep the flag flying. It is the fans who have constantly demanded our inclusion. They have been heard.”

“We look forward to accepting this esteemed award next spring in honor of our fallen brother, Chris Squire, who would have been delighted to see his musical vision finally receive such recognition,” adds drummer Alan White. “We thank everyone who voted for Yes. We’ll see you soon, Cleveland!”

The members of YES who will officially be inducted into the Rock Hall are the “Union” tour line-up: current members White and Howe, the band’s late bassist and founding member Chris Squire, and former members Jon Anderson (vocals), Bill Bruford (drums), Tony Kaye (keyboards), Rick Wakeman (keyboards) and Trevor Rabin (guitar).

“Yes was like my first girlfriend, to whom I was hopelessly committed,” says Bruford. “Despite a couple of wrinkles, I’m glad to hear the old girl is in fine shape.”

Kaye confirms, “I am honored to be included in Yes’ induction. I am delighted for my friends in the band, and I salute Chris, without whom it would never have happened. Chris would have been so very proud.”

In addition to Steve Howe and Alan White, YES’ current line-up includes Geoff Downes (keyboards; first joined in 1980), Jon Davison (vocals since 2011) and Billy Sherwood (guitar/keyboards in the 1990s and Chris Squire’s choice to take over bass/vocals in 2015).

TREVOR HORN TO JOIN YES ON STAGE AT RAH FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 36 YEARS

TREVOR HORN TO JOIN YES ON STAGE AT RAH FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 36 YEARS

Yes with Trevor HornTrevor Horn has confirmed he will delight fans with a rare guest appearance during the band’s London show at Royal Albert Hall on 10th May. Trevor will also join YES on stage in Oxford on the 9th; this will be the first opportunity to see YES live with Trevor since the original Drama tour 36 years ago.

The announcement was made after Horn joined YES for a rehearsal session at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth last week; Robert Plant working also working in another studio at Rockfield also popped in to say hello to the guys.

The extensive UK and European tour sees YES performing 1980’s prog landmark album ‘Drama’ in its entirety for the very first time, together with ‘Fragile’ 1971 and other seminal hits from their catalogue. ‘Drama’, YES’ only album to feature Horn as lead vocalist, marked a change of direction for their sound and was widely acclaimed by critics, reaching number 2 in the UK charts. The band disbanded after the tour, with Trevor venturing into production. Trevor Horn went onto produce YES’ next album 90125.

“Most of the songs haven’t been performed in some 30 years’” – said Steve Howe. “Reliving those years will be very emotional” – adds drummer Alan White – “I know Chris would have loved to be here with us for this”.

YES was founded by Chris Squire and Jon Anderson in 1968. Characterised by a prog symphonic style of rock music, lengthy compositions and the use of mystical and cosmic lyrics, the band went on to record 21 albums and win several prestigious awards including Grammys, The band is recognized as one of the most influential icons in prog rock.

Still as relevant today as in the 70s, YES has maintained a loyal following while constantly attracting new crowds of music fans throughout 47 years of its outstanding career.
