Motown legends The Four Tops and The Temptations are returning to the UK in November 2020 to perform some of their most popular and award-winning songs that continue to inspire musicians around the globe. The Tamla Motown label broke down cultural and social barriers and The Four Tops and The Temptations were at the very forefront of that transformative period. Original members, Duke Fakir and Otis Williams, of the Four Tops and Temptations respectively, hold a special place in the hearts of British fans, and they are both delighted to be returning to the UK for the 2020 8-date concert tour in October and November.
“We are thrilled to be coming back to the UK,” says Duke Fakir. “We always have such a great reception from our fans here, it always feels like home. It makes it so special to perform for the folks in Britain.”
“We want to thank our British fans for supporting and inspiring us over a half century. I’ve had such memorable trips to Britain dating as far back as the early 70’s, including meeting the Archbishop of Canterbury to recording our Live at London’s Talk of the Town album. As we mark our 60th Anniversary in 2020, the Temptations want to pay special tribute to fans in the UK and worldwide. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this special milestone during next year’s tour,” says Otis Williams, founding member of the Temptations.
I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch), Reach Out I’ll Be There, Standing In The Shadows Of Love, Bernadette, and Walk Away Renee are all timeless Four Tops’ classics that need little, or no, introduction and they enjoyed a revival of fortunes when Loco In Acapulco, from the film Buster, was a UK hit in 1988. Four Tops founder member Duke Fakir is joined by Ronnie McNeir, Lawrence Payton Jr and Joseph Alex Morris a truly fine vocalist with a commanding delivery in the current line-up.
Temptations’ blockbuster No.1 hits Just My Imagination, Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone, and My Girl are among the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s “500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.” The Temptations, throughout the group’s evolution, have produced 53 Billboard Hot 100 Hit singles, including four that became No.1 Pop singles. Additionally, they released 43 Top 10 R&B hit singles, 14 of which were No.1 R&B hits, including timeless classics such as Ain’t Too Proud to Beg, Beauty is Only Skin Deep, and I Wish It Would Rain. Otis Williams, the sole surviving original Temptation, Ron Tyson, a lead vocalist for 37 years, Terry Weeks, a lead vocalist for 23 years, and Willie Greene, Jr., base vocalist with the group for four years, are still serenading fans with their soulful voices, lighting up stages with their famous Temptations’ Walk, and bringing joy to audiences of all ages.

About the Four Tops
The Four Tops were among the first wave of Tamla Motown artists to make an impact in the UK with their infectious R&B and soul influenced brand of pop. The line-up of Levi Stubbs, Duke Fakir, Obie Benson and Lawrence Payton teamed up with the Holland-Dozier-Holland writing and production team to score a constant string of hits for over a decade.
Baby I Need Your Loving gave them a US hit with their first Motown release in 1964 and they scored their first US Number 1 the following year with I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch). This also gave them their first UK top ten hit. In 1966, they topped the charts on both sides of the Atlantic with Reach Out I’ll Be There. The Four Tops trademark sound of baritone lead vocals and lush harmonies was complemented, on stage, with slick and well-rehearsed dance routines, also giving them a strong visual identity.
The Four Tops were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and continue to tour regularly led by Duke Fakir, sole surviving member of the classic line-up.
In a Rolling Stone magazine article in 2004 Smokey Robinson remembered: “They were the best in my neighbourhood in Detroit when I was growing up (and) the Four Tops will always be one of the biggest and the best groups ever. Their music is forever.”
ABOUT THE TEMPTATIONS
The Temptations are world-renowned superstars of entertainment, revered for their phenomenal catalog of music, and prolific career. Named the “#1 R&B/Hip Hop Artists of All Time” and one of the “125 Greatest of All Time Artists” by Billboard Magazine this past month, the group’s 60-year history spans both the 20th and 21stcenturies and their music transcends generations. They were also named one of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” by Rolling Stone Magazine. Currently the subject of a smash hit Broadway musical, “Ain’t Too Proud,” which won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Choreography, and negotiations are ongoing for the musical to come to London, the Temptations are the recipients of numerous awards and honors. They have won four Grammy Awards, including being honoured with the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award in 2013. They have been inducted into the Rock and Roll, Vocal Group, and Rhythm and Blues Music’ Halls of Fame and have been honoured with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Hollywood and the Apollo Theater’s Walk of Fame in Harlem, New York.
Last month, the original Broadway cast album for “Ain’t Too Proud-The Life and Times of the Temptations,” was nominated for a Grammy Award in the “Best Musical Theater Album” category. The Awards’ ceremony will be held in January 2020. Also, for the 2019 holiday season, Universal Music Enterprises just released in the market a first-of–its-kind, animated video featuring the Temptations’ “Silent Night,” one of the most popular holiday songs of all time. The Temptations will mark their 60th Anniversary next year with an international concert tour.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Four Tops have been responsible for an astonishing number of hit records during their 54-year history. Three classic Temptations tracks, My Girl, Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me), and Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone, were included in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll, and they were awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.
The line-up is founder member, Otis Williams, with Ron Tyson, Terry Weeks, Larry Braggs and Willie Greene Jr.

American vocal quartet Four Tops are widely considered as one of the main artists to help define the landmark Motown sound in the 1960s. Amongst their biggest hits are I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) and Reach Out I’ll Be There. The line-up features original founder member Abdul ‘Duke’ Fakir with Lawrence Payton Jr, Lewis McNeir and Spike Deleon.
Fellow Motown vocal quintet The Temptations are known for their seminal R&B and soul catalogue, their harmonies and their trademark choreographies. The Temptations were the first ever Motown artists to win a Grammy and are particularly remembered for classics My Girl and Papa Was A Rolling Stone. Counting over 20 different musicians throughout their career, Otis Williams is the only surviving member off the original five today together with Terry Weeks, Joe Herndon, Ron Tyson and Bruce Williamson.
Who can forget Only You and The Great Pretender! Early rock’n’roll pioneers The Platters had Top 40 Billboard singles and 4 Number Ones between 1955 and 1967. They recorded just under 400 songs, sold well over 100 million records, performed in more than 91 countries and received more than 250 awards worldwide. They were inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame in 1990 and 2014 marks the 60th anniversary of their international debut with ‘Only You’.
Singer and actress Freda Payne hit her musical peak in 1970 with Band of Gold, reaching a million copies sold and later re-recorded with Belinda Carlisle in 1986. A complete artist and a versatile vocalist, Freda’s career spans over 4 decades covering soul, R&B and jazz as well as movie and theatre roles. Freda has just finished recording a new jazz album to be released in 2014. She says “The Four Tops, Platter’s, and the Temptation’s are three iconic male groups who have laid there musical imprint in American history. The Platter’s going all the way back to the fifties and the Four Top’s who I’ve worked with as far back as the sixties. The Temptation’s rocked the world as 0ne of Motown’s premier R&B groups and the Top’s were right along with them. I am honored to be touring with these guys. They are the best, and we are like family. It’s a pleasure to be returning to the UK again with a great group of guys. Peace and Love,”
FOUR TOPS AND THE TEMPTATIONS ANNOUNCE 10 DATES UK TOUR WITH SPECIAL GUESTS TAVARES AND THE CRYSTALSSeptember 6, 2011
The Four Tops The Temptations Tavares
Due to exceptional demand, legendary Motown artists The Four Tops and The Temptations return to the UK for 10 stunning shows in March 2012. They will be joined by two very special guests: kings of Seventies R & B disco Tavares and seminal sixties girl band The Crystals.
With Soul and R&B enjoying a dazzling comeback, this tour promises to get three or four generations together, shaking their hips and singing along to the timeless sound of some truly irresistible classics. A few titles? “Reach Out (I’ll be there)” and “It’s All In The Game” from the Four Tops; “My Girl” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone” from The Temptations; “Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel” and “More Than A Woman” from Tavares and “Da Doo Ron Ron” and “Then He Kissed Me” from The Crystals. And these are likely to be just the encores after an endless string of unforgettable hits.
Being the only ones choosing a baritone over a tenor in Stubbs, The Four Tops managed to stick out from the rest of the Motown roster. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, they moved to LA in the early Seventies and continued playing with no change in their line up until 1997, when Lawrence Payton passed away. The current line up includes original founder member Abdul “Duke” Fakir.
Also from Detroit were The Temptations, one of Motown’s most influential and successful recording artists; across five decades, they’ve sold tens of millions of albums, spacing from R & B to funk, disco, soul and even adult contemporary music. Founder and original member Otis Williams is still in the band, carrying its important legacy.
The Tavares brothers started performing together in the late 60s to become one of the most successful R & B, funk and soul names in the Seventies, although often seen as more of a disco act. Their 1976’ album “Sky High!” produced 3 UK Top Ten singles, while the following year their version of “More Than a Woman” for the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack won them a Grammy Award.
60s influential girl group The Crystals completes this unique bill for a trip down Memory Lane all the way to the modern rediscovery of everything vintage and soulful. The Crystals have managed to produce a long series of hits and are considered one of the defining female acts of their time. “He’s a Rebel”, written by Gene Pitney and produced by Phil Spector, became an all time classic and is the song that best represents Spector’s girl group sound.
