saxon-live-to-rockLegendary British rockers, Saxon, are releasing a brand-new, thumping, download single “Live to Rock” on October 17th through SPV/Steamhammer.

This follows a triumphant performance at Download 2008, of which NME said,“Saxon played a storming set to a huge crowd”. Only fans that flocked to the Gibson stage in plenty of time to see the heavy metal warriors managed to get inside the 5,000-capacity tent.

For those that missed one of Download 2008’s magic moments, there is ample opportunity as Saxon head out on a 15-date UK tour with Motörhead and Danko Jones, kicking off on 3rd November. Full details overleaf.

To round it all off, they will release “Into The Labyrinth”, their 18th studio album, on 12th January 2009. Byford and Co. have already recorded 13 new tracks which are form a perfect mix of powerful, in-your-face rock songs and pure heavy metal tracks The lads are currently working on a 14th track.

The current line-up consists of: Biff Byford (Vocals), Paul Quinn (Guitars), Doug Scaratt (Guitars), Nibbs Carter (Bass), Nigel Glockler (Drums).

Formed in 1976 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, the band released their first album in 1979 and had scored 4 top twenty hits by 1981. They went on to have 8 top 20 UK albums within the next 10 years including the mega selling Wheels of Steel which hit number 5 in 1980 and their double platinum Denim And Leather (1981). Tours of America, an appearance at the Monsters Of Rock festival at Castle Donington, and the live albumThe Eagle Has Landed (1982) (according to Melody Maker “one of the best live recordings of the decade”) followed. To date Saxon have sold over 10 million units worldwide, released 26 albums and are still going from strength to strength.
